Wetlands Dilemma

| 1 | What is It About?
This dilemma describes the story of someone developing an area of land containing a wetland for use as a market garden. The students are encouraged to put themselves in the position of the person in the story and make decisions about how to use the land over the period of time that the story covers. The activity aims to provoke a greater understanding of the way that environments can be changed through human activity and the importance of some knowledge of chemistry in relation this scenario. |

| 2 | Where to Use It?
This dilemma can be used by general science classes from 14 year olds onwards when they may be studying ecology or chemistry which is relevant to changes in the environment. The story was designed for use with Year 11 Chemistry, so that students can appreciate the importance of the study of fundamental chemistry concepts. |
